Mitigating phosphorus leaching from a clay loam through structure liming
نویسندگان
چکیده
Phosphorus (P) losses from clay soils can be mitigated by introducing measures for improving soil structure. These include structure liming, where a mixture of CaO or Ca(OH)2 and CaCO3 is added to the soil. In field experiment with separately tile-drained plots on loam in Sweden, we examined effects liming leaching total-P, phosphate P (PO4-P) total nitrogen (N) during three years after initial application. The treatments included two application rates (8 16 t ha−1) common product comparison control (no lime). Effects emerged second third year application, 45 38% lower total-P than unlimed control. A significant effect rate was found year. Nitrogen crop yield were not affected. As expected, pH raised following lime addition. Measurements aggregate stability did confirm reduction leaching, indicating that it important measure concentrations drainage water directly when assessing liming.

Phosphorus leaching from loamy sand and clay loam topsoils after application of pig slurry
Appropriate management of animal waste is essential for guaranteeing good water quality. A laboratory leaching study with intact soil columns was performed to investigate the risk of phosphorus (P) leaching from a clay loam and a loamy sand. The columns (0.2 m deep) were irrigated before and after application of pig slurry on the surface or after incorporation, or application of mineral P, each...
متن کاملAssessing strategies to mitigate phosphorus leaching from drained clay soils
Assessing mitigation of phosphorus (P) leaching from subsurface drainage systems is challenging due to high spatial and temporal variation in leaching. Mean measured total P leaching from a clayey soil in an eight-year study period (four replicates per treatment) was (kg ha-1 year-1): 1.21 from shallow autumn tillage (ShT), 0.84 from unfertilised fallow (UF), 0.81 from conventional autumn ploug...
متن کاملN leaching to groundwater from dairy production involving grazing over the winter on a clay-loam soil.
This study investigated concentrations of various N species in shallow groundwater (<2.2m below ground level) and N losses from dairy production involving grazing over the winter period on a clay loam soil with a high natural attenuation capacity in southern Ireland (52°51'N, 08°21'W) over a 2-year period. A dense network of shallow groundwater piezometers was installed to determine groundwater...
متن کاملFate of manure phosphorus in a weathered sandy clay loam soil amended with three animal manures.
Laboratory incubation was conducted for 120 days to study the fate of phosphorus in poultry (PM), cattle (CM) and goat manures (GM). Phosphorus mineralized from manure was dependent on total P, Al and Fe content. Manures improved P availability in the order: PM>CM>GM; however, the highest amount of P was fixed or immobilized between 10 and 70 days of incubating with CM and GM. Fixation and immo...

Equilibrium-tension lysimeters were used to evaluate and compare dissolved reactive phosphorus (DRP) leaching from a prairie and fertilized no-tillage and chisel-plowed corn agroecosystems on Plano silt loam (fine-silty, mixed, superactive, mesic Typic Argiudolls) in south central Wisconsin during four monitoring periods, March through April 1996, 1997, and 1998, and from January 1999 through S...
